March 12, 2019 | Volleyball
SEATTLE - Junior Avie Niece made a strong impression at the recent U.S. Women's National Team Open Tryout and the Husky middle blocker has been invited to take part in a spring training block for the Women's National Team held March 16-23 in Anaheim, Calif. at the American Sports Centers.
Niece will be one of seventeen players to take part in the training block, a group that includes players with senior National Team experience as well as nine other collegiate players with eligibility remaining. All 17 athletes will be evaluated for additional training this summer with the full U.S. Women's National Team with the opportunity to make international rosters including the Pan American Games and Pan American Cup.
Middle blockers selected for the training include Niece, Florida's Rachael Kramer, and Dana Rettke and Tionna Williams of Wisconsin.
"For those of us on the U.S. Women's National Team staff, every day we get to work with dedicated people pursuing mastery is a great day," U.S. Women's National Team Head Coach Karch Kiraly said. "We're pumped for the opportunity to work with this group, and excited to see how they all develop over the next several years. Finally, a gratitude shout out: for all those people with remaining college eligibility, a big thank you to all of their college programs whose support made this training camp possible."
