Huskies In Florida For Next Round
November 19, 2019 | Women's Soccer
SEATTLE - The NCAA Tournament run will continue this week for the Washington Huskies. Four-seeded Washington heads cross-country to Tallahassee, Florida, where they will face off with the South Florida Bulls on Friday, November 22 at 11:00 am PT. The winner of that second-round game will play the winner of Florida State-Brown on Sunday at 10:00 am PT.
This is Washington's first trip to the second round since 2014. That year, the Huskies advanced to the Sweet Sixteen before falling to #3 Stanford 0-1. This is also the second trip to Florida in the last two seasons for Washington: the program had never played a game in Florida before 2018. Last season, Washington beat USF 4-0 in an exhibition game and lost to #7 Florida 1-2 in the 2018 regular season opener.
The Huskies beat the Seattle U Redhawks 1-0 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament last week on the strength of Shae Holmes' first career goal. Washington recorded its second straight shutout and has not allowed multiple goals in a game since October 13, when it defeated #25 Arizona 3-2. Only four opponents have scored multiple goals against the Huskies this season. Only twice all year has Washington lost a lead, both times coming in the 2-3 loss to #2 North Carolina in August.

Siena Ruelas set new career highs in shutouts (five) and wins (ten) with a clean sheet against Seattle U. She has a 244-minute shutout streak, the best such streak of her career. #2 Stanford is the only team to score multiple goals against Ruelas in a regulation match this season. Currently carrying a .818 save percentage, Ruelas can become the sixth Husky keeper ever with a save percentage of .800 in a single season, joining Sarah Shimer (2017), Megan Kufeld (2013), Kari Davidson (2012), Jorde LaFontaine-Kussman (2010), and Hope Solo (2000, 2001). |

THE BIG 2-0 | |
Summer Yates became the highest-scoring Husky since 2012 with a goal against Washington State. Yates has 22 points, the most since Lindsay Elston had 25 in 2012. No sophomore has ever had more points in a single season than Yates: the previous high for a sophomore was 19, scored by Shannon Simon in 2015. This is the 13th time in Husky history a player has broken the 20-point barrier in a single season. |
