LAST WEEK
The Huskies escaped last weekend's series winning two-of-three against Washington State. They cruised to a 15-2 win on Friday night, the third largest margin of victory ever by the Huskies against the Cougars. Saturday was rained out, so the two teams played a double header on Sunday. WSU won game 1, 5-1, beating Husky ace Joe DeMers. The Cougars were on the way to the doubleheader sweep, leading 5-1 entering the 8th inning, but the Huskies scored once in the 8th and four times in the 9th to escape with a walk-off -6-5 win. Freshman Braiden Ward tied the game up with a RBI single and went on to score the winning run on a wild pitch ... Washington beat Seattle U on Tuesday, 7-2, leading from start to finish against the Redhawks. Nick Kahle and Noah Hsue each had three hits.
SERIES HISTORY VS. ARIZONA STATE
Arizona State leads the series 37-22. The Huskies have won 4 of the last 5 series between the two teams, including each of the last two series hosted by the Sun Devils. Last season, the Huskies won 2 of 3 in Seattle vs. ASU, including a pair of shutouts. ASU's last series win was 2015 in Seattle and their last home series win was 2012. UW in 11-12 vs. ASU under Lindsay Meggs. The first time these two teams met was in 1998 where Washington won the first game 8-6 on March 27 and went on to win the series, 2-1.
TEAM NOTES:
• Huskies In MLB: Austin Voth was recalled by the Washington Nationals on Sunday and is the fourth Husky to make it to the show in 2018. Adam Cimber (San Diego), Andrew Kittredge (Tampa Bay) and Jake Lamb (Arizona) are all currently in the Majors.
• DeMers Earns Major League Honor: Joe DeMers along with Husky softball player Gabbie Plain threw out the ceremonial first pitch at the Seattle Mariners game on Wednesday, May 2. The two were honored for throwing perfect games earlier this season. Their pitches were caught by Felix Hernandez, who threw a perfect game Aug. 12, 2012.
• Kahle On Bench Watch List: Sophomore Nick Kahle was added to the Johnny Bench Watch list on Wednesday. It's probably a good idea, since he is hitting a Pac-12 best .413 in Conference action and .322 overall. His 17 doubles ranks 3rd in the Pac-12. He has also caught 346 of 362 innings (95%) behind the plate.
• Kahle's Hit Streak: Nick Kahle has a current 12-game hit streak in which he has been able to raise his average from .262 to .322. He is 21-for-45 (.467) during that stretch.
• Hardy Pac-12's ERA Leader: Senior Alex Hardy has allowed a Pac-12 low one earned run in 20.2 innings of Conference action for a league-leading 0.44 ERA. He also is tops with a .174 batting average against.
• DeMers Career Starts: Joe DeMers has made 40 career starts, tied for 6th most in UW history. His next start will tie him with Jeff Heaverlo (41) for 5th most in UW history.
• Extra Effort: The Huskies are 5-1 in extra inning games, including 4-0 as the visiting team.
• Errors Note: The Huskies are 12-5 when they don't make an error. They have committed 44 errors and allowed 30 unearned runs, which are both totals that surpass what the Huskies did in 2017 in 54 games.
