SEATTLE - The Huskies (18-18, 9-6 Pac-12) have 17 games left on their schedule, 15 against Pac-12 opponents. Currently, they sit alone in fourth in the standings and will look to remain there -- or improve -- against their cross-state rivals, Washington State (13-21, 5-10).
The Boeing Apple Cup Series of Baseball between the Huskies and Cougars starts Friday and runs through Sunday, with plenty of promotions associated with the series. For Friday's 7:00 p.m. game, a food truck will be on site from 6:00-7:00 for hungry fans to enjoy. Also, it's Greek night, so where your fraternity or sorority letters. Saturday's game is a 7:00 p.m. start and Sunday's getaway game is a 1:00 p.m. Select players will be available for autographs following Saturday's game, while on Sunday, there are many promotions, including a sign making station, Pups and Parents Day, Kid Run The Bases (postgame) and the Whole U -- with UW faculty and staff eligible to purchase up to four tickets for $5 apiece (limit 200).
This weekend's series against the Cougars will be carried live on the Pac-12 Network with Greg Heister and Kevin Stocker calling the action. Constant game updates will be tweeted @UW_Baseball and fans can find all links at GoHuskies.com.
LAST WEEK
The Huskies lost two-of-three at California and a single game to UT Rio Grande Valley. Cal won game one of the series 11-4 and game two 5-2 before the Huskies rallied to win Sunday, 4-3, in 10 innings. In the Huskies' lone win, they were no hit for 6 1/3 innings and trailed 3-0 until getting a run in the eighth and a 2-run HR by Joe Wainhouse in the ninth to force extra innings. Nick Kahle singled home the winning run in the 10th to make a winner out of Josh Burgmann, who pitched five scoreless innings for his first UW win ... UW lost 5-2 Monday to visiting UT Rio Grande Valley. The Huskies scored in each of the first three innings, but a four-run seventh by UTRGV was the downfall for the Dawgs.
SERIES HISTORY VS. WASHINGTON STATE
WSU leads the Boeing Apple Cup Series with an all-time series record of 242-193. The Cougars have won each of the last three series. The Huskies last series win was in 2014 when they won two of three in Seattle. UW's last sweep was on the Palouse was in 2013. Since Lindsay Meggs took over at UW in 2010, the Huskies hold a 14-12 advantage. The historic series began in 1901, where the two teams met for the first game in Husky baseball history. The Huskies have plenty of ties to WSU, including Mason Cerrillo, who played for them in 2015, hitting .240 in 30 games. Joe Wainhouse's dad, Dave, was a Cougar standout and is the highest drafted WSU player in the school's history (1st RD, 19th overall, 1988).
