SEATTLE - Fresh off an eight-game homestand capped by a sweep of Arizona to start Pac-12 play, the Huskies (10-8, 3-0 Pac-12) hit the road and take on No. 1 ranked Oregon State (18-1, 3-0) in Corvallis at Goss Stadium. It marks the first stop in a seven-game road stretch for the Diamond Dawgs.
It is the second year in a row that the Huskies will face the Beavers while they hold the top spot in the national rankings. In last seasons matchup at Husky Ballpark, the Huskies won game one of the series to snap the Beavers' 23-game winning streak. Oregon State went on to win the next two games to claim the series.
The Beavers are the only team remaining in Division I with just one loss. They started the year 13-0 before suffering their first loss on March 9 vs. Cal-State Fullerton. The Beavs have now won five-straight games, including a sweep last week at California. OSU has won each of its last 13 games in Pac-12 play dating back to 2017.
The visiting Huskies have won three-straight games after dropping five-of-six previously. They will be fighting for their first road series win at OSU since 2004.
Friday (7:00 p.m.) and Sunday's (3:00 p.m.) games will be on the Pac-12 Network, marking the first of 17 television appearances that the Huskies make this season. Guy Haberman and former Husky Kevin Stocker will call the action for Pac-12 Net. Saturday's game (1:35 p.m.) will be streamed live on OSUBeavers.com. Constant game updates will be tweeted (@UW_Baseball) and fans can find all links at GoHuskies.com.
SERIES HISTORY VS. OREGON STATE
Oregon State holds the all-time series advantage over Washington 238-189-1. In their last matchup, the Huskies won game one of the series, 3-2, to snap the Beavers' 23-game win streak. They hung the only loss of the season on 11-game winner Luke Heimlich that night. The Beavers bounced back to win the next two games, 5-2 and 3-0, to win the series. The Beavs have won each of the last four series against the Huskies. The last time UW won a series they took 2-of-3 against No. 5 OSU in 2013 at Husky Ballpark. You have to go all the way back to 2004 to find the last time the Huskies won a series in Corvallis, taking 2-of-3 against the Beavs. The series between the two teams dates back to 1910, where the Huskies took the first two games.
INDIVIDUAL NOTES:
• Jordan Jones enters the weekend as the Pac-12 leader in innings pitched (34.0) and is tied for the lead in strikeouts (32). Jones is also third for fewest walks allowed with three. He is the only player to rank top-10 in both strikeouts and fewest walks allowed. Nationally, his strikeout-to-walk ratio of 10.67 ranks 20th.
• Joe DeMers leads the Pac-12 and ranks 4th nationally with a 0.35 ERA. He also is the national leader in hits allowed per nine innings (3.16) ranks second nationally with a 0.55 WHIP.
• Freshmen pitchers played a huge role in Washington's three-game sweep last weekend. In Friday night's game, Jack DeCooman (3.1 IP, ER) made his first career start and was relieved by classmate Dylan Lamb, who picked up his first collegiate victory. Stevie Emanuels picked up the wins in each of the final two games. Saturday's combined 1-0 shutout was spun by three freshmen: Lucas Knowles (7.2), Lamb (1.0) and Emanuels (0.1).
• Emanuels is tied for the Pac-12 lead with four wins. He is also one of five pitchers tied for fourth in the Pac-12 with 11 appearances. Teammate Alex Hardy is tied with two other for most appearances with 12.
• As good as the first-year arms were last week vs. the Wildcats, a couple freshman hitters were equally crucial to the Huskies' sweep. On Sunday, Noah Hsue collected the walk-off hit, sending fellow freshman Kaiser Weiss home for the winning run. A night before in UW's 1-0 win, Weiss drove home the game-winner in the 9th inning.
• Nick Kahle is second in the Pac-12 with 8 doubles. Five of his last seven hits have been doubles.
• Joe Wainhouse is the first player in Lindsay Meggs' nine years at Washington to both pitch and hit. He made his first two appearances of 2018 on the mound vs. Illinois State, coming in for late relief while also serving as the designated hitter. The Huskies last true two-way player was Brian Pearl in 2009.
TEAM NOTES:
• UW vs. No. 1: The last time the Huskies played the No. 1 ranked team on the road was in 2010 when they lost 2-of-3 at Arizona State. The Huskies hosted top-ranked OSU last year and won 1-of-3 games. The last time they won a series vs. No. 1 was 2004 when top-ranked Stanford visited, with the Diamond Dawgs taking 2-of-3 from the Cardinal in that series.
• UW Errorless: UW did not commit an error in its sweep of Arizona, reversing a trend in that they entered last week with a Pac-12 high 23 errors. In 2017, the Huskies led the Pac-12 and ranked 3rd nationally in fielding pct (.982).
• Home Sweet Home: Going all the way back to 1999, the Huskies have opened Conference action at home eight times (2018, 2017, 2016, 2012, 2010, 2003, 2001, 1999). The Huskies have won each of those three-game series -- four by sweeps.
