Huskies Drop Game One, 16-1, To No. 1 Beavers

The Beavers (19-1, 4-0 Pac-12) scored in each of the first seven innings and got solid pitching from their ace Luke Heimlich (5-0) to win their sixth-straight game and rout the Huskies (10-9, 3-1). Every hitter in the Beavers order had at least one hit by the fourth inning.

Oregon State scored a run in the first and seventh, two in the second and sixth, three in both the third and fifth and four in the sixth.

The Beavers chased Husky starter Lucas Knowles (1-2) in the third, knocking around the redshirt-freshman for nine hits and six earned runs over 2 2/3 innings. They tacked two more runs off of Chris Micheles before the Huskies got into the offensive act in the fifth.

Christian Jones, who doubled to lead off the inning, was plated on a single by freshman Jonathan Schiffer. The run made the score 8-1 and that was the closest the Huskies would get.

The Huskies' offense had several early opportunities to get on the scoreboard and make it a game, but Heimlich was able to wiggle out of a pair of early jams. Mason Cerrillo started the game with a single, but was left standing at second. Ben Baird led off the second with a double, but was stranded at third representing the tying run.

Those were just several of the opportunities the Huskies had to get to Heimlich. The senior struck out a career high 13 batters in 7 1/3 innings, allowing four hits and one earned run.
