September 06, 2017 | Men's Soccer
SEATTLE -- Due to poor air quality in Spokane, the No. 16 Washington men's soccer match against No. 22 Gonzaga will now be played in Seattle at Husky Soccer Stadium on Thursday (Sept. 7) at 4 p.m. PT. The match was originally scheduled to be played at Luger Field in Spokane. For ticket information, click here.
Washington (2-1) has had more success against Gonzaga (3-0) than any other school in program history with a 28-1-1 record all-time. The Huskies have defeated Gonzaga in each of the six seasons with Jamie Clark at the helm, including a 3-1 win at home last season.
The Huskies (2-1) have already played two ranked opponents this season, knocking off then-No. 20 New Mexico 2-1 in their season opener before falling to then-No. 24 Akron 2-0 in the team's first road match.
Washington has recorded four goals and three assists on the year. The Huskies' first tally of 2017 came courtesy of sophomore Elijah Rice in the 35th minute against the Lobos, while senior Scott Menzies scored on a penalty kick later in the second half. The Husky defense held the Lobo offense scoreless until the 85th minute.
The Huskies scored two second-half goals to defeat and shutout LMU. Sophomore Joey Parish tallied a goal in the 76th minute before sophomore Handwalla Bwana extended the lead in a breakaway situation in the 82nd minute.
Parish was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week Tuesday (Aug. 29) for his performance against Loyola Marymount. Parish, who did not see action Friday against New Mexico, recorded a goal and assist in the match. The Redmond, Wash. native entered the game in the 67th minute and made an immediate impact to earn his first career weekly honor.
