No. 16 Washington Defeats No. 22 Gonzaga 3-0
September 07, 2017 | Men's Soccer
SEATTLE – The No. 16 University of Washington men's soccer team used a trio of goals and stingy defense to blank No. 22 Gonzaga 3-0 Thursday (Sept. 7) at Husky Soccer Stadium. The Huskies improve to 3-1 with the win.
The match, which was originally slated to be played in Spokane, was moved to Seattle due to poor air quality in eastern Washington.
Junior Quentin Pearson opened the scoring with his first goal of the season during the 14th minute. The Longmont, Colo. native headed in a corner kick from sophomore Handwalla Bwana.
The Huskies added two more tallies in the second half. In the 61st minute, freshman Blake Bodily lofted a beautiful ball to sophomore Elijah Rice who beat the Gonzaga goalkeeper with a header towards the right side of the goal.
Washington added their third goal during the 86th minute. Senior Scott Menzies rocketed a ball from 30 yards out that hit the top of the crossbar and found the back of the net to give the Huskies a 3-0 advantage.
The Huskies controlled the momentum the majority of the contest, holding a 14-4 shot advantage and 5-0 in shots on goal.
Rice posted four shots to lead Washington's offense.
Up Next: The Huskies are back at Husky Soccer Stadium on Sunday as they host Mercer at 3:30 p.m. PT.
