Huskies Inched Past By Bears 2-1 In OT

SEATTLE - The Washington Huskies suffered their first home defeat of the season, falling 2-1 in overtime to the Mercer Bears. Β Elijah Rice scored the only goal for the Huskies, who fall to 3-2-0 on the season with the loss.
Saif Kerawala made five saves in goal for the Huskies but took the loss.
Washington started the game pressuring goal, with a cross from Rice just two minutes in that bandied about the box before Mercer could clear. Β The first corner of the game, at 10', also netted a dangerous chance for the Huskies. Β The cross off that corner was caught by the goalie just ahead of several on-rushing Husky attackers.
It was in the 18th minute that Rice put Washington on top. Β Jaret Townsend was fouled in the box, giving the Huskies a penalty kick. Β Rice calmly tucked that PK into the net to make it 1-0 on his third goal of the season.
Mercer would tie the game at 25'. Β Kerawala made the intitial save off a header but the Bears pounced on the rebound to make it 1-1.
Corban Anderson beat the goalie on a header off a Townsend cross in the 31st minute, coming close to giving Washington the lead once again. Β Anderson's header went just over the crossbar, unfortunately.
Shots after one period of play were 9-5 in Mercer's favor.
Handwalla Bwana came on in the second half and kept Washington's offense alive, recording four shots and serving several dangerous crosses. Β At 52', Bwana's corner kick found Garret Jackson in the box, only for Jackson's header to veer wide of goal. Β Bwana also let loose with two shots in the last five minutes of regulation from outside the box that couldn't quite find the net.
Shots were 15-14 Washington after regulation, with the Huskies outshooting Mercer 10-5 in the second 45'.
Mercer would score on the only shot of overtime to win the game, taking it 2-1.
