Huskies Offense Overwhelms Drexel 4-0
September 14, 2017 | Men's Soccer
SEATTLE – The Washington Huskies poured on the offense in a 4-0 win over the Drexel Dragons on Thursday. Saif Kerawala recorded his third shutout of the year while Blake Bodily, Scott Menzies, Luke Hauswirth, and Corban Anderson all scored goals. The Huskies are 4-2-0 on the year now with three games to go in non-conference play.
The Husky offense came to life immediately, with six shots and seven corners in the first 15 minutes of the game. Anderson nearly scored in the 6th minute on Washington's first shot of the game as the offense peppered Drexel's goalie with shots and dangerous crosses consistently.
On Washington's 8th corner of the game, coming at 34', Handwalla Bwana and Bodily combined to take the lead. Bwana took the corner and sent a bouncing pass to the foot of Bodily. Bodily took the volley and unleashed a curving shot that found the very top left corner of the net for the goal.
Less than 30 seconds later, Menzies scored his third goal of the season on a header. Blake Bodily crossed the ball, with Jaret Townsend backing up to set up a pass from the far end of the box. Townsend headed it on into traffic, where Menzies found it and headed it up and over the goalie to make it 2-0.
Hauswirth made it three goals in just under four minutes at 36:18. Townsend found Hauswirth on the run with a through ball. Hauswirth was left with just the goalie in front of him and beat him for his first goal of the year and a 3-0 Husky lead.
Shots were 14-3 Washington after 45, with shots on goal 9-1 in the Huskies' favor. Menzies and Hauswirth each recorded multiple shots on goal, with Menzies taking four total shots.
With the game already well in hand, the Huskies added an insurance goal early in the second half. Bwana's corner at 46:06 fell into heavy traffic in front of the net. John Magnus was able to get a touch on the ball and send it out to Quentin Pearson. Pearson then volleyed it to Anderson, who sent a curving shot over the traffic and into the goal to make it 4-0.
That would end the scoring, with shots in the second half favoring Washington 9-2. Overall, the Huskies outshot Drexel 23-5, with Kerawala making saves on Drexel's only two shots on goal, both coming in the first half.
The Husky homestand will continue on Sunday, when Washington takes on the Santa Clara Broncos at 2:00 pm.
