SEATTLE – After winning the Husky Nike Invitational this last weekend, the Washington Huskies head to Portland for two games in the Nike Portland Invitational this week. The Huskies will take on Boise State on Friday, September 8 at 4:00 pm PT. After that, Washington faces off against the Baylor Bears on Sunday, September 10 at 12:00 pm PT.
Last week, the Huskies went 2-0-0, taking down #2 Florida and New Mexico in a pair of 1-0 shutout victories. Shannon Simon's goal against Florida, her second game-winner and team-high third goal of the season, gave Washington its third-ever win over the nation's #2 team. The Huskies also took down #2 Portland in the 2010 NCAA Tournament and #2 Santa Clara in 2000.
Kimberly Keever matched Simon with her second game-winner of the year in overtime against New Mexico, which also gave her three goals on the year. For Keever, that goal put her ninth all-time in Husky history in goals scored, tied with Kim Taylor, Lindsay Elston, and Jaclyn Softli.
Sarah Shimer's work in goal this last weekend put her in the midst of a 184-minute shutout streak as she recorded her second and third shutouts of the year. Shimer already has three shutouts this year, matching her total from 2016 and giving her seven in her career, good for ninth in Husky history.
The matchup with Boise State will be just the second game against the Broncos in the last 17 years for Washington. The two teams last played in 2013, with Boise State winning that match 1-0.
Boise State is 3-2-1 so far this season and will take on Washington fresh off a 1-0 win over Oklahoma. Baylee Blaser leads the way for the Broncos with four goals thus far, while Raimee Sherle has also scored two while added two assists.
Washington and Baylor last played in 2013 as well, with Baylor winning 1-0 in that game. So far in 2017, Baylor is undefeated, going 4-0-1. The Bears have allowed just one goal this season, coming in a 2-1 OT win over Wyoming. Jennifer Wandt and Hannah Parrish have split time in goal, with two shutouts each.
