
Washington Headed To Oklahoma City For NCAA Regional Semifinal

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- For the sixth time in program history and first time in consecutive years, the University of Washington women's basketball team is headed to the Sweet 16 where they will face No. 2-seed Mississippi State (31-4) at Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, Okla. on Friday (March 24) at 4 p.m. PT.
The game will air live on ESPN2 with Pam Ward and Gail Goestenkors on the call. Radio coverage will be available on AM 1150 KKNW and gohuskies.leanplayer.com.
The winner between Washington and Mississippi State will advance to the Elite Eight to play the winner of No. 1 seed Baylor and No. 4 seed Louisville on Sunday (March 26).
The Huskies earned a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament and hosted the first two rounds for the first time since 1995. Washington beat No. 14 seed Montana State 91-63 in the opening round before dispatching No. 6 seed Oklahoma 108-82 in the second round. In the game against the Sooners, Washington set a new NCAA Tournament record with 18 3-pointers.
Washington (29-5) is making its 19th appearance in the NCAA Tournament and third-straight under fourth-year head coach Mike Neighbors. The Huskies enter the Sweet 16 with the most wins in program history (29). Washington has five losses this season and all five teams advanced to the Sweet 16.
A league-record five Pac-12 teams advanced to the Sweet 16 and the conference is 12-2 in the NCAA Tournament so far. The five NCAA Sweet 16 teams are the most for any conference this season. Pac-12 teams went 7-0 in the first round and it was the second-straight year the league went undefeated in the opening round.
The Huskies are led by the elite duo of seniors Kelsey Plum and Chantel Osahor who lead the nation in scoring and rebounding, respectively. Plum is averaging 31.8 points per game while Osahor averages a double-double with 15.8 points and 15.4 rebounds. Osahor has accounted for an NCAA-leading 29 double-doubles this season. Freshman Aarion McDonald (9.8 points per game), junior Natalie Romeo (9.4) and senior Katie Collier (6.5) round out the starting five.
Romeo reached 1,000 points for her career in the first round of the NCAA Tournament against Montana State. The junior now has 1,028 career points and became the third player on this Washington roster to score 1,000 career points, joining Plum and Osahor.
