SEATTLE - Just two weeks remain in the regular season as the 10th-ranked Husky volleyball team heads out on the road for the final time in conference play, visiting Corvallis and Eugene. Winners of three straight and six of its last seven, Washington (21-6, 11-5 Pac-12) is seeking to continue its upward trend and assemble the best postseason résumé it can and road wins over likely NCAA tournament teams Oregon State and Oregon would help that cause.
When UW faces the Beavers (19-9, 9-7 Pac-12) on Friday at 6 p.m. it will be eight days since the Huskies last played a match, their longest stretch without a match all season, but now the regular season finishes with another stretch of four matches in eight days. The Oregon State match is a non-televised match that will be streamed online. Sunday's meeting with 20th-ranked Oregon (16-8, 9-7 Pac-12) will be live on Pac-12 Networks Oregon, starting at 1 p.m.
Washington split a pair of five setters with the Oregon schools in Seattle that both came down to the final points, beating Oregon 15-13 but then losing 13-15 to Oregon State. That Beavers win broke a 27-match win streak in the series for the Huskies, who will look to get a new streak going on Friday. The Dawgs are now in third-place alone in the Pac-12 race, one game behind USC, and one game ahead of Utah, with OSU and Oregon tied for fifth.
The Beavers have won three in a row, getting two wins in the desert last weekend to sweep the season series from the Arizonas for the first time since 1990. Libero Grace Massey won Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week and setter Kylee McLaughlin won Freshman of the Week for the second time this season. Senior Mary-Kate Marshall continues to lead the Beavers as she ranks second in the Pac-12 with 4.55 kills per set and second in aces with 0.40 per set. Junior middle Kory Cheshire is 10th in attack percentage at .316. In Pac-12 matches, OSU is hitting .228 and its opponents are hitting .221, with the Beavers sixth in blocks (2.35) and aces (1.13) and fifth in digs per set (15.47).
The Ducks are coming off a split at the Arizonas, sweeping ASU but falling to the Wildcats in five sets after taking a 2-0 lead. Oregon remains one of the top offensive squads in the conference, hitting .263 in league play to rank second behind Stanford, while its opponents hit .220. Oregon is also third in aces in Pac-12 play with 1.21, and fifth in blocks at 2.47. Five Ducks are averaging between 2.07 and 2.77 kills per set, with senior Taylor Agost now leading the team at 2.77 and hitting .299 and sophomore Lindsey Vander Weide adding 2.65 per set. Sophomore middle Ronika Stone is hitting .369 for the season and .355 in Pac-12 play to rank fourth. Oregon rotates two setters, with senior Maggie Scott averaging 6.12 assists per set and junior August Raskie adding 5.07.Β
