
Pac-12 Play Comes To Husky Soccer Stadium

Home Conference Play Begins Thursday
No. 16 Washington (7-3-0) will begin Pac-12 home play on Thursday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. PT with a home match at Husky Stadium against Stanford (4-2-3). The Huskies will conclude the weekend on Sunday with a 4 p.m. PT match against California (4-3-1). Both matches will be aired live on the Pac-12 Network. Both matches will also be double-headers as they follow Washington Women's Soccer matches.
Husky Stadium Blackout
Thursday's match against the Cardinal will be a blackout for Husky fans. Fans are encouraged to wear black to match the team. Fans who wear black upon ticket purchase will receive one free ticket for a friend to the match.
Last Time Out
The Huskies beat the Bruins for the first time since 2012 last Thursday in a 4-0 shutout in Los Angeles. The Huskies saw goals from Garret Jackson and Justin Schmidt in the first four minutes of action, along with Handwalla Bwana in the 43th minute and Joey Parish in the 60th. The first two goals were scored off throw-in's from Steven Wright.
Unable to continue the momentum of their four game winning streak, the team fell to SDSU on Sunday, 1-0 in overtime. With their strong defense, the Huskies were able to fight off the Aztec offense, but in the 91st a ball ricocheted off goalkeeper Auden Schilder, to end the match.
Last At Husky Soccer Stadium
Last time at home, the Washington Huskies battled for ninety minutes with Seattle University for the inaugural Seattle Cup presented by the Washington Athletics Conference. The Huskies took down the Redhawks, 2-1 in a match that came down to the final horn.
Handwalla Bwana scored the first goal of the match from the top of the box in the 27th minute, his third of the season. In the 53rd minute, fellow freshman Elijah Rice, earned his first goal of the season off an assist from Luke Hauswirth. Seattle University's, John Tyler, scored the Redhawks lone goal in the 88th minute.
On an Offensive Roll
Despite the loss to SDSU, the Huskies have been on an offensive roll, totaling 11 goals in their last four wins. The offensive game has several key players. Handwalla Bwana leads the team in goals with goals (4), scoring in the last three of four wins. Mason Robertson and David Coly both hold three goals on the season, Coly has two assists. Kyle Coffee has two assists and two goals for 2016 play thus far.
Everything Went Wright
At UCLA two identical goals were scored within the first four minutes. Both started with throw-ins from Steven Wright. The first was scored off a header from Garret Jackson (assisted by a header from Justin Schmidt), the second was a header from Schmidt less than a minute later. The UCLA goalkeeper allowed four goals out of nine shots.
Weekend of Records
Last week's match marked the team's first win against the Bruins since 2012. The four goal shutout is the largest margin of victory in conference play since their 7-0 shutout against California in 2000. Prior to the loss to the Aztecs last Sunday, the Huskies were on a four match win streak, the longest since their seven win streak in 2014 (record in 2014 was 12-5-3).
Scouting the Cardinal
Stanford is currently unranked for the first time in two years. The Cardinal's offense is led by Foster Langsdorf who has scored six times in his last five matches. The team is currently made of 15 returning letter winners and five newcomers. The squad is currently 4-2-3 overall and 1-0-0 in the conference.
The Series with Stanford
Washington is 17-33-5 in 55 all-time meetings with the Cardinal. Last season, the Huskies broke Stanford's eight win streak when their match ended in a 0-0 draw. Later in the season on Nov. 2, the Huskies shatter the Cardinal's 66 day unbeaten streak when they won at home in Seattle, 2-1. It was the longest streak in Stanford history.
Scouting the Bears
California enters the week having just lost to Stanford. The team is led by trio Nick Lima, Christian Thierjung and Jose Carrera-Garcia, who were all named on Top Drawer's National Top 100 list in the preseason. The team has five freshmen, including Simon Lekressner from Bellevue, Wash. The squad is 4-3-1 overall and 0-1 in the conference.

Washington is 27-18-10 all-time with the Bears. The series last ended with a loss for the Huskies, 0-1.
