SEATTLE – Washington did it again, defeating a top-10 team at Alaska Airlines Arena for the third-straight time. The Dawgs (17-6, 6-5) outlasted No. 7 Oregon State (20-2, 10-1) in a great game, 76-67.
The win was the second of the season against a top-10 team for the Dawgs who also beat No. 5 Texas A&M back on December 29, 70-49. Last season, the Huskies beat then-No. 3 Stanford 87-82 to start the streak.
The Dawgs shot the ball well all night, using a balanced attack that included four players in double figures. Washington shot 46.6 percent for the game, led by 21 points from Jazmine Davis and a career-high 20 from Aminah Williams. Kelsey Plum added 17, while Talia Walton chipped in 10.
The first half was a back-and-forth battle as both teams led by as many as six. The Dawgs jumped out to an early lead, but the Beavers used a run to take the lead midway through the half. Back came the Huskies, however, using a balanced attack. Plum drained a 3-pointer at the buzzer of the half to get Washington to the break up, 34-31.
Plum led the Dawgs with nine in the first half, but five Huskies scored at least five, including seven apiece from Davis and Williams. Chantel Osahor also had a big half, ripping down nine rebounds, all on the defensive end to help keep Oregon State to one shot the majority of the time.
In the second half, Washington led by as many as 12 after Davis made a 3-pointer that completed four-straight possessions with a make from beyond the arc. The Huskies finished 8-20 from downtown, including a career-best tying three from Williams.
Oregon State would not go away, however, cutting the lead to three at the 8:21 mark, but Washington responded. The Huskies used a 7-0 run to get the lead back to double-digits as Oregon State could not get close again.
The Dawgs were efficient on offense, dishing out 15 assists to go with just nine turnovers. Osahor had a career-best five assists, matching Davis for the team lead. The sophomore post player from Arizona also had a career-best 13 rebounds as she helped the Dawgs stay close in the battle of the boards. Oregon State outrebonded the Dawgs, but it was only 40-36.
Washington also got good production from Katie Collier off the bench as she finished with six points and five rebounds in just 13 minutes. Collier also did a nice job at the defensive end, banging with the big Beaver front line.
The Dawgs will finish the weekend on Sunday at 6 p.m. when Oregon (11-11, 4-7) comes to Alaska Airlines Arena. Washington will look to push their home winning streak to five against a Ducks team that has won three in a row.
