Washington's loss to California on Thursday completes the Bears' season sweep of the Huskies. Washington falls to 40-13 all-time against Cal, including a 21-4 record at home. The last time the Huskies defeated California was a 74-66 upset over the then-No.9 ranked Golden Bears in Seattle last season in both teams regular season finale (March 2, 2008).
#3/3 California is the highest ranked opponent the Huskies have been pitted against at Bank of America Arena since playing then-ranked #3 Stanford on Jan. 23, 1998, a game that Washington lost 64-90.
Washington is 0-5 against ranked opponents this season, with its last win against a ranked opponent coming against then-No. 9 California in Seattle on March 2, 2008. UW also falls to 0-11 when trailing at halftime, and 0-8 when scoring less than 60 points.
The Huskies held the Golden Bears without a field goal for the final five minutes of the first half, mounting a 7-2 run to end the first half and cutting California's lead of 14 down to just 9 (18-27) at halftime.
UW forced Cal into 17 turnovers, and has forced all but one of its opponents into 15 or more turnovers this year, with the exception being No. 1 UConn (14 turnovers).
Freshman forward Liz Lay has registered her two best games of the season against Cal. Her 11 points and 6 rebounds in their first meeting stand as her current career-highs in both categories and her 10 point and 5 rebound performance tonight denotes her second-best outing.
Junior guard Christina Rozier matched her career-high with 12 points on 4-7 shooting, with the last time she accomplished that feat coming against Arizona on Jan. 19.
Cal forward/center Ashley Walker's game-high 24 point performance moved her into 15th place in Pac-10 scoring history (1,903 career points), surpassing former UCLA player Rehema Stephens (1990-92, 1887 points).
Washington shot just 6-26 (23.1%) from the field and went 0-5 from beyond the arc in the first half, compared to Cal's 9-24 (37.5%) shooting clip. The Huskies finished 15-56 from the field (26.8%) while the Golden Bears shot 27-58 (46.6%).
The Huskies current nine-game losing streak is the worst in school history, with the next longest skid of six games coming during the 1999-2000 season. Their current five-game home losing streak also exceeds their previous longest of all time, with the last time the Huskies lost four straight at home occurring during the 04-05 season.
