CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Behind the pitching performance of freshman Tia Bollinger (Santa Ana, Calif.) the 10th-ranked Washington softball team swept a pair of games Wednesday at Tennessee-Chattanooga, 7-1 and 3-0. With the doubleheader swept, the Huskies moved to 8-4 on the season, while the Lady Mocs fell to 7-6.

In the first game, the Huskies got started early scoring three runs in the first inning, with the first two coming on an RBI double by sophomore Jaime Clark (Tustin, Calif.) and the last tallied by an RBI single from senior Kelly Hauxhurst (Westminster, Calif.).

The Lady Mocs answered back in the bottom of the first, scoring one unearned run after lead-off batter Leah Tucker walked, advanced to second on a base ball, went to third on a single and scored on a UW throwing error.

After a solo home run by Clark in the third, the Huskies, who have outscored their opponents 20-1 in the fifth inning, added three runs more in the fifth to move the score to 7-1.

Bollinger, who allowed just a single in the first inning, shutdown the Lady Mocs for the rest of the game, striking out seven batters. Chattanooga pitcher Talya Trudell took the loss to fall to 3-3.

In the second game, the Huskies broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fourth when Hauxhurst doubled home senior Kim DePaul (Tomball, Texas) and senior Christie Rosenblad (Fillmore, Calif.) singled home Clark from third base.

The UW added an insurance run in the top of the seventh when sophomore catcher Amy Hanson (Mt. Vernon, Wash.) went yard for the second time this season with a solo shot to straight-away center field.

Bollinger, who relieved starter junior Shannon Walsh (Covina, Calif.), picked up her eighth win of the season to move to 8-1, while Walsh, who reentered in the seventh, earned her first career save.

The Washington softball team will be back in action Friday for day one of the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Ga. The Huskies are set tot face Southern Mississippi and New Mexico.
