Nolan Wilson was elevated to the role of assistant coach following the 2022 season and will enter his fifth year with Coach Langley, third on the Husky sidelines in 2023. He previously served as the director of analytics and scouting after joining Washington in April of 2021.
Wilson brings extensive experience as a scout and coach and at the collegiate and NBA levels to the Huskies. The last two years, he played a crucial role in the breakdown of opponents and evaluation of Washington. He oversaw video operations and advanced analytics for the team, while working closely with the coaching staff to assist in planning day-to-day practice sessions and game strategy. Wilson’s concentrated work ethic and detailed scouting contributed to a 12-game improvement in the program’s second year—one of the largest in the country. With a total of 19-victories, the Huskies achieved their best record since the 2016-17 season.
Prior to the University of Washington, Wilson served with Coach Langley in two stints at Rice during the 2018-19 and 2020-21 seasons. When he first began, he functioned as the Owls Assistant Scouting and Recruiting Director. Wilson assisted in recruiting efforts, organized and edited film, evaluated the Owls’ opponents, and crafted scouting reports. All in all, he helped Rice win 28 games that year and go undefeated, 16-0, in Conference USA action. Rejoining the team in 2020, Wilson assumed the role of assistant coach an helped the Owls win their third-consecutive Conference USA title and a WNIT championship.
In between his roles with Rice, Wilson spent a season with the Dallas Mavericks as an assistant coach in Player Development. There, he quickly developed an elite acumen for instruction and coaching. Wilson routinely assisted with on-court drills alongside player development coach and NBA Hall of Famer, God Shammgod. He trained players like All-Star Kristaps Porzingis, Tim Hardaway Jr. and Seth Curry. In preparation for gameday, Wilson also simulated scout offense/defense and utilized RSPCT shot progression software to collect statistical shot tracking data.
With an extensive track record in both scouting and on-court instruction, Wilson will play a crucial role in the Huskies strategic development as he heads into his first year as a Washington assistant.
A 2018 graduate of Prairie View A&M, Wilson played both football (defensive end) and basketball (forward) for the Panthers. After his playing days were over, he serves as a graduate assistant for the basketball team before coming to Rice.
In June of 2019, Wilson married Maya Hawkins and in December 2022 they gave birth to a son, Maceo.
