2021 Pac-12 Javelin Runner-Up
2021: After going three years between competition due to injury and the Covid-19 pandemic, came back with a breakout year, taking second-place in the javelin at the Pac-12 Championships and upping his PR by 14 feet over the course of the season … at the Pac-12 Championships, placed second with a new career-best of 220-10 … made his first NCAA West Prelims appearance and placed 15th overall going 210-11 … second at the West Coast Relays with a toss of 216-2 … set a PR at the time of 12 feet with a throw of 218-6 to take second at the Jim Click Shootout … second in the UW-WSU Dual going 209-6 … won the Jim Bush Legends Invite at 200-8 … made the Pac-12 Spring Academic Honor Roll … named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team.
2020: Outdoor season canceled due to COVID-19.
2019: Did not compete.
2018: Saw his first official action in uniform but arm issues limited him to just two meets … first college action was the Trojan Invitational, where he threw the javelin 204-11 to finish third … set a new PR of 206-7 at the UW-WSU Dual to finish fourth in his only other competition … a Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention.
2017: Redshirted his first season.
High School and Personal: Born in Wenatchee, Wash. … mother is Fona Sugg-Mathena, father Mike Sugg and stepfather Josh Mathena … has one older brother, Dillon, and two younger sisters, Demary and Maya … grandparents Mike and Pam attended Washington and Mike played on the UW freshman basketball team … Dillon plays football at Central Washington … was on track for a big senior season as he had the top javelin throw in 4A at 198-7 but suffered a season-ending injury at the Shoreline Invite after winning all previous competitions that year … second at the 2015 USATF Junior Olympic Regionals with a javelin throw of 182-4 … was sixth at the Washington 4A state meet in 2015 as a junior and was 12th at state as a sophomore … had a personal-best throw of 199-3 as a junior … a three-time Columbia Basin Big-9 conference champ and named CBBN Outstanding Field Athlete … lettered one year in football … WHS Track & Field Most Inspirational in 2016 … graduated with a 3.7 GPA.
