
Huskies Drop Season Opener In Puerto Rico

PONCE, Puerto Rico - Washington dropped the first game of the 2026 season, falling to No. 17 NC State 13-0 on Friday evening.
Hayden Lewis took the mound for the Huskies to start, making him the first new Husky to debut in 2026. He tossed three scoreless frames before allowing a run.Β
In the fourth inning, the Wolfpack scored four on Lewis and added on three more in the fifth to make it seven earned runs on the day. Lewis finished his day with 4.2 IP, eight hits, seven earned runs against two walks and four punchouts.
Jack Wade was the second Husky to make his pitching debut. The lefthander tossed the remainder of the fifth and also the sixth inning. He finished his day with 1.1 IP, two hits, and one run allowed.
Liam Lierman closed out the game for the Huskies, throwing the seventh inning. The Wolfpack added five unearned runs in the seventh.
Blake Wilson and Ethan Swidler each bagged two hits on the day in three at bats.Β
Aidan Dougherty, Ty Cowan, Ethan Swidler, and Mic Paul each made their first Husky starts on the day. Landon Young, Drew Johnson, Kevin Spear, Ian Draper, and Daniel Porras also made their first appearances, seeing action as substitutes.
