February 14, 2026 | Baseball
PONCE, Puerto Rico - Washington dropped the second game of the Puerto Rico Baseball Challenge on Saturday, falling to No. 21 Wake Forest 5-0. The Huskies move to 0-2 on the season.
The game which was originally set to begin at 4:30 p.m. PT didn't start until 7:10 p.m. PT due to a lengthy rain delay during the previous contest. Once the two teams could finally start play, Jay Miller took the mound for his first action as a Husky.
The transfer from UNCGΒ tossed a scoreless first inning with two strikeouts. In the second inning, Wake Forest found some offense and scored four runs on three hits before Noah Kenney took over to get the final out of the frame.
It was also Kenney's Washington debut and he impressed against the ranked opponent. The junior pitched the bulk of the game for the Dawgs, finishing with 4.1 innings pitched, three hits, one run, and six strikeouts.
By the end of the fifth inning, Kenney had logged five straight punchouts.
Tommy Brandenburg came in to close the game out and tossed two scoreless frames. He also earned his first strikeout of the season in the bottom of the eighth.
Washington was able to get runners on base but couldn't find the finishing punch to score the runs. The Huskies left 10 batters on base during the game compared to seven for Wake Forest.
Daniel Porras, Ty Cowan, Ethan Swidler, and Casen Taggart each logged hits in the game.
The Huskies will play game three of the Puerto Rico Challenge later today at 3:30 p.m. PT against Boston College in Ponce, Puerto Rico.
