No. 1 Huskies Win Both Heats At Inaugural MPSF Championships
May 17, 2025 | Men's Rowing
GOLD RIVER, Calif. – The Washington men's rowing team opened competition at the 2025 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships with wins in both of its heats Saturday at Lake Natoma. Sunday, five Husky crews will race for MPSF titles.
Washington won its heats in the first and second varsity eights. Those two crews will race in grand finals on Sunday, along with the third varsity eight, freshman eight and the varsity four, events for which no heats were held.
The Huskies opened the inaugural MPSF regatta with a win in the varsity eights, racing vs. Oregon State, Gonzaga and the University of San Diego.
Needing a top-two finish to advance, the UW varsity grabbed the early lead and were able to maintain it for the full 2,000 meters, winning in a time of 5:57.524, just under seven seconds ahead of the Beavers.
The second varsity eight heat was similar as the Huskies rowed to a comfortable win, with a time of 6:03.819, more than 11 seconds ahead of second-place Oregon State.
In the other two heats, California finished first and Stanford second, meaning the former Pac-12 programs will all race in grand finals on Sunday.
Heats were not held in the other three race categories as fewer than seven programs entered the third varsity eight, freshman eight and varsity four events.
