July 04, 2026 | Men's Rowing
HENLEY-ON-THAMES, U.K. – The Washington men will compete in the final of The Temple Challenge Cup Sunday at Henley Royal Regatta as the Huskies beat A.S.R. Nereus 'A', of the Netherlands, in a Saturday semifinal.
The other UW crew racing at Henley, in The Ladies' Challenge Plate, lost to a crew from Cambridge and Harvard in its semifinal, ending its run at the historic regatta.
In The Temple Challenge Cup semifinal, the two crews traded the lead in the early-going, one surging in front of the other with each stroke, but UW passed the Barrier, the first milestone on the 2,112-meter course, with a two-seat lead. At the 3/4-mile mark, Washington's lead had increased to about 2/3 of a length.
The Dutch crew gave the Huskies a challenge down the stretch, cutting into the lead, but in the end, Washington pulled away to win the race by a length.
Sunday, Washington will take on the Cambridge University "A" crew in The Temple Challenge Cup final (time TBD).
The Huskies have won The Temple Challenge Cup three times, in 2010, 2012 and 2018.
Washington's first race Saturday was its Ladies' Challenge Plate semifinal vs. a combined crew from Cambridge University and Harvard University.
The two crews opened with strong starts, but the Cambridge & Harvard eight established a lead not too long after the opening strokes. Washington's crew kept contact with the other boat, but Cambridge & Harvard held on to win the race by a length, booking a spot in Sunday's final.
