Huskies Hold Steady During Second Round of Southern Highlands Collegiate
March 03, 2025 | Men's Golf
LAS VEGAS – The Washington men's golf team improved its score by 10 strokes during the second round of the Southern Highlands Collegiate on Monday. However, the net result was minimal as UW maintained its place on the leaderboard at 14th.
The round of the day for the Huskies came from senior Drew Warford, who rebounded from a difficult opening day at Southern Highlands Golf Club with a 73. Freshman Jake Foley finished one shot behind Warford for the day at two-over and is tied for 31st overall.
"Today was a good bounce back from Drew," head coach Alan Murray said. "He played solidly today and Jake was steady once again as well."
Jack Murphy shot six-over par for the round, while Finn Koelle produced a mixed bag at six-over and Abel Derksen rounded things out for UW with an 84.
"Finn and Jack played better than their scores suggest but their back 9s today bit us in the backside from a scoring perspective," Murray said.
Washington will close out the tournament on Tuesday, paired with Georgia and SMU. The Huskies will tee off from hole No. 10 beginning at 10:20 a.m.
"The game is hard and we are really going through the mill at the moment but we have to believe these painful lessons will make us better moving forward. We will get rested up tonight and see if we can finish with a good round tomorrow," Murray concluded.
