Huskies Place Fourth At Southwestern Invitational
January 28, 2026 | Men's Golf
WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. – Washington men's golf concluded the Southwestern Invitational at North Ranch Country Club with a fourth-place finish.
No. 15 Pepperdine won the tournament at 11-under with San Diego State finishing runner up (+6). UNLV (+7), Washington (+16), San Diego (+18) and USC (+18) rounded out the Top 5.
"Kind of an up and down day for us," head coach Alan Murray said. "Got off to a decent start and then we played the middle part of the round pretty poorly overall. We played the last four holes without dropping a shot and snagged a couple of birdies and it helped us to finish in fourth."
Emil Herstad led the Dawgs in his collegiate debut with a sixth-place finish at one over par total four the tournament. He went 1-over today with a pair of birdies to conclude the round.
"Awesome tournament from Emil," Murray added. "He has only been here four weeks and he has settled in seamlessly to the life of a college golfer. His game is really good and manages himself so well. Super happy for him and so were his teammates. Finishing in the Top 10 in your first college event is super impressive for any freshman."
Jacob Goode finished with a 2-over (72) to place in a tie for 14th at 2-over for the tournament.
"Nice tournament from Jacob also," Murray stated. "He battled today and to finish in the Top 15 is a good effort."
Finn Koelle had a solid final nine holes with three birdies to shoot 73 (+3) on the day and sit at 13-over in a tie for 47th. Jake Foley rounded out the top four scores today for the Dawgs with a 74 to finish in a tie for 36 (+10). Jack Murphy placed 32nd at 9-over for the tournament.
"The other guys struggled a bit and Finn had a good finish to his round which helped," Murray said.
Brock Maulding, playing as an individual, was one of seven golfers today to shoot even or better with a 70. He finished at 14-over par total to place in the Top 50.
"Not the finish we wanted or hoped for overall but there was some progress there," Murray concluded. "We have a number of things we can improve on, but we are moving the right direction. We have a relatively quick turnaround before leaving for Hawaii in the next few days."
Washington will be back in action on Feb. 5-7 at the Ameri Ari at the Mauna Lani Resort Golf Club in Waimea, Hawaii.
