Huskies Make Moves On Moving Day
January 27, 2026 | Men's Golf
WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. – Washington men's golf moved up four spots on the leaderboard to solo fifth (+6, 566) on the second day of the Southwestern Invitational at North Ranch Country Club.
"Better day today for us," head coach Alan Murray said. "Everyone hung tough when we had a wobble in mid round. We moved up the leaderboard and a really good round tomorrow will be what we are looking for."
The Huskies got off to a hot start on the back nine, combining for 14 birdies and two eagles.
Jacob Goode tied for the lowest round of the day at 5-under to move from a tie for 51st to a tie for 12th. Goode's round was highlighted by two eagles on the back nine. His 65 is the lowest round by a Dawg this season and the second-lowest round relative to par.
"Great score by Jacob - two eagles and six birdies in the same round is impressive," Murray added.
Freshman Emil Herstad shot a 3-under to go to 2-under overall for the tournament. He sits in the Top 10 heading to the final round. Herstad had a stretch of four birdies in a row on his opening nine holes.
"Really good round by Emil also," Murray added. "His first under par rounds a college golfer and he is performing well."
Jack Murphy had his second round of the week of 1-over (71) to sit at 2-over and in the Top 20. Jake Foley bounced back from his 5-over round yesterday with a 71 highlighted by a bogey-free back nine. Finn Koelle posted a 2-over (72) and had five birdies.
"Jack didn't have his best stuff but scrapped admirably," Murray stated. "Jake had it going on the front nine and leaked a little oil but still a solid round and Finn improved upon his first round."
Playing as an individual, Brock Maulding shot a 6-over (76).
"We need to cut down on the number of dropped shots overall," Murray concluded. "We do that, and I think we can have our best round of the week."
Washington will play alongside San Diego and UNLV beginning at 8:55 a.m. PT for the final round off hole No. 1. Live scoring can be found on Clippd.
