February 02, 2025 | Women's Basketball
COLUMBUS – The Washington women's basketball team (13-9, 4-6 Big Ten) kept it a single digit game in the final minutes but ultimately fell 66-56 to 8th-ranked Ohio State Sunday in Columbus.
The Buckeyes' 66 points were the second fewest in a game this season for Ohio State (20-1, 9-1 Big Ten) and the fewest in a home game.
The Huskies recorded six blocks, the fifth time doing so this year. They also limited the Buckeyes to just three three-pointers, the lowest count for OSU in a conference game this season and second fewest all year.
Hannah Stines dropped 17 points (8-for-14) tonight for Washington, including her 700th career point, while also pulling down four rebounds.
Dalayah Daniels did some damage on both ends of the floor, recording 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting, seven rebounds, four assists, and four blocks.
The fifth-year forward also recorded her 1,000th point in a Washington uniform, as Daniels now sits at 1,371 points on her career.
Devin Coppinger added eight points on 3-of-4 shooting in 22 minutes off the bench.
The Huskies got out to a 7-0 start led by Stines from the get-go, who had six of her 17 in the first 10 minutes to put UW up one, 15-14.
The Buckeyes bounced back in the second quarter, outscoring Washington 22-11 in the second frame to secure a halftime lead.
The Huskies narrowed that lead in the third quarter, besting Ohio State 19-14 in a quarter in which Daniels had eight and Washington shot 53.3 percent from the field.
Washington held the Buckeyes scoreless for the final two-and-a-half minutes of play, but OSU held on to secure the win on its home floor and clinch a spot in the Big Ten Tournament.
Washington's road trip will continue eastbound as the Huskies travel for a matchup at Penn State on Wednesday, Feb. 5. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. PT on B1G+.
