
Huskies Drop Opener In Berkeley, 10-3

BERKELEY, Calif. βΒ Washington fell behind early Thursday night at Cal and couldn't climb out of the hole, dropping the series opener at Stu Gordon Stadium by a 10-3 score.

Starter Max Fraser took the loss, allowing nine runs (eight earned) on 10 hits.

The Huskies started off in a hole as a leadoff error ended up leading to five first inning runs for the Golden Bears.

After singles from Aiva Arquette and AJ Guerrero, Jeter Ybarra gave the Huskies some life, taking a 2-2 offering the other way over the left field wall, a three-run shot that made it a two-run ball game.

However, Cal answered right back with four runs on six hits in the home half, re-extending the lead before adding an additional run in the fourth to make it 10-3.

Isaac Yeager entered in the fourth and escaped without any further damage, giving the Huskies 3.1 innings of scoreless relief to keep the deficit at seven. The Dawgs, however, were unable to muster a comeback, dropping the series opener.

The two sides will square off Friday in Game Two at 6 p.m. PT. The game will air live on Pac-12 Bay Area.
