Guerrero’s Two Bombs Not Enough As Dawgs Fall 7-6 To Seattle U

SEATTLE – Washington twice erased a Seattle U lead on Tuesday but could not do it a third time, falling to the Redhawks 7-6 at Husky Ballpark.

The loss came despite a terrific effort from junior AJ Guerrero, who left the park on half of his four hits on the night.

Reliever Gianluca Shinn received the loss as the Huskies used five arms in the game.

It had looked like Washington had avoided a 1-0 hole in the first thanks to an inning-ending double play. Instead, SU's Grant Heiser was ruled safe at first, putting the Redhawks in front.

Guerrero made quick work of the deficit, going the other way on a 3-2 offering and driving a game-tying homer over the right field fence.

Four singles in the third recaptured the lead for Seattle U, but a leadoff dinger from Aiva Arquette halved the deficit for UW at 3-2 after three complete. The Huskies then pounced for three in the fourth to take their first and only lead of the night.

After a passed ball scored Colton Bower from third to deadlock the score, Blake Wilson cruised home on a wild pitch to put the Huskies in front. Guerrero's second big fly of the game tacked on another run, with the Fife, Washington, native this time pulling a 2-0 offering to left-center.

A triple and an RBI grounder in the sixth pulled SU within a run and an RBI double in the seventh once again tied things up at five runs apiece. The next inning, Sam Kane delivered a two-run home run that put the Redhawks up for good.

Jeter Ybarra brought home Guerrero with a single to right, standing on first himself as the tying run. However, the Huskies couldn't bring him around to score, evening the season series with the Redhawks.

Washington remains home as it re-enters Pac-12 play this weekend. The Huskies will host UCLA Friday through Sunday for three games at Husky Ballpark.

• Over the last five games, Carson Ohland, Aiva Arquette and Guerrero are all batting .400 or better
• Jeter Ybarra extended his hitting streak to nine games, while Arquette has hit safely in seven straight games
