STANFORD, Calif. – Field events grabbed the spotlight for the Huskies on the second day of the outdoor season, and the final day of the Stanford Invitational. Following Friday's busy day on the track, today saw the jumpers and throwers put up some major marks to open their seasons.
Four Huskies were the top collegiate finishers in their events today on the Farm, and also at the Texas Relays, freshman Hana Moll grabbed the top clearance in NCAA D-I so far this outdoor season.
Huskies either winning their events outright, or finishing as the top collegiate in the field, included Jayden White in the men's hammer throw, Saydi Orange in the women's collegiate javelin throw, Trevontay Smith in the men's triple jump, and Chloe Foerster in the women's 800-meters.
Jumps
Freshman Trevontay Smith unleashed the biggest jump of his young career today to win the triple jump and shoot up the Husky top-10 list just one meet into his outdoor career. Smith, who had a best indoors of 49-3 ½, flew more than two feet past that mark today, going 51-6 ¼ on his sixth and final jump. Based on marks entering the weekend, Smith would rank third nationally, and it puts him up to No. 3 in school history as well.
Also in the triple, senior Kunle Akinlosotu had a best today of 49-6 ½, and freshman Roman Hutchinson got a best leap today of 47-10 ¾ to finish ninth.
At the Texas Relays, Hana and Amanda Moll and Sara Borton all opened their outdoor seasons. Amanda Moll and Borton each had clearances at the opening bar of 13-7 ¼. Indoor national champ Hana Moll was clean over three bars, making 14-9 on a first attempt, but missed three tries at 15-1. That 14-9 make is now the best in the NCAA so far outdoors and ranks third in school history.
Back at Stanford, two Huskies jumped in the men's vault, with Max Manson returning to his former home track and placing third at 17-1 ½. Simon Park also had a make of 16-9 ½ today to finish sixth.
Throws
Jayden White made the switch from the weight to the hammer with little problems today as he was the top collegiate finisher in the invitational section. White threw 214-7 on his second attempt and then bettered that to 220-10 on his fifth-round throw, finishing second overall.
Sophomore Saydi Orange started her season with a victory and a new PR in the women's javelin collegiate section. Orange threw 162-9 on her fifth attempt to come out on top. That strengthens her own No. 5 mark in school history coming out of the gates. Senior Natalie Holmer had one of her best marks going 149-11 to finish sixth. Redshirt freshman Ashley Schroeder threw 136-3 in her Husky debut and Kathleen Horn went 133-1.
In the women's discus, on her sixth and final attempt, senior Beatrice Asomaning lined one up and sent it 182-feet, 11-inches, her best throw since West Prelims in 2022 and the second-best mark of her career.
Starting the morning was the women's hammer throw. Asomaning went 172-2 on her best attempt and Yvonne Colson threw 147-1.
Decathletes Jami Schlueter and Bruno Comin Pescador both threw shot today. Schlueter went 46-10 ¼ and Comin Pescador went 45-6 ¼.
Distances
One day after all posted stellar times in the 1,500-meters, Chloe Foerster, Wilma Nielsen, and Samantha Friborg all doubled back and all ran in the same heat of the 800-meters. All three would post new UW top-10 times in the race.
Foerster led the way again, posting the fastest 800-meter time of her career by two seconds as she ran 2:03.34. That moves her up to No. 4 in school history. Nielsen ran 2:04.93, going to 7th in school history. And Friborg went to No. 9 in school history with a time of 2:05.69.
Sprints
Only one sprints group was scheduled to compete today, the men's 4x400-meter relay, and as they stood on the track set to run the final race of the meet, a lightning delay was called and as the storm lingered, that final heat had to be canceled.
