SEATTLE – Washington track & field athletes put their stamp on the Canadian Outdoor Championships last week in Ottawa, as Huskies past and future combined to win seven medals, six in the senior championship and one in the U20 meet.
Held at Terry Fox Stadium, three UW men's alumni earned medals, while the three women who medaled are all headed to Seattle for their first seasons in purple in '25-26.
2025 grad Justin O'Toole was still repping his UW singlet in the 800-meter final, and he claimed the Husky outdoor 800-meter School Record with a silver medal finish. O'Toole was barely edged out by World Champion Marco Arop by just .07 seconds, as O'Toole ran a lifetime-best 1:45.51.
Kieran Lumb, a 2023 Husky grad, added another Canadian national title to his resume, as he won the 5,000-meters in 13:40.53. Lumb then doubled back and took third in the 1,500m final for a second medal.
Another 2023 grad, Aaron Ahl, took the silver medal in the steeplechase in a time of 8:31.68.
Two incoming transfers, Chloe Thomas and Jenica Swartz, each earned bronze medal finishes. Thomas, joining the Huskies from UConn, ran 15:25.47 for her bronze. Swartz, UW's most recent commit, ran a big PR of 2:02.46 to take third. She also was sixth in the 1,500-meter final.
Last but not least, incoming freshman Chloe Symon took third in the 800m final at the U20 level, running 2:07.51. Symon also ran in the 400-meters, and took fourth in 54.24.
