Eleven Huskies Ready For Worlds
September 11, 2025 | Track & Field
SEATTLE – A record eleven current or former Husky track and field athletes are prepped to compete at the 2025 IAAF World Athletics Championships in Tokyo from Sept. 13 to Sept. 21, including five members off the 2025 Husky squad. Peacock will be the streaming home for all World Championships action.
The eleven athletes with UW ties surpasses the ten Huskies who competed in the 2023 World Championships. Prior to that, the previous record was just three, at multiple championships.
Washington's contingent will be representing including the USA, Australia, Canada, Ireland, the Netherlands, New Zealand, and Panama.
The five Huskies from this year's squad who have reconvened in Tokyo include rising junior pole vaulters Amanda and Hana Moll (USA), and graduated senior distance runners Amina Maatoug (1500m/Netherlands), Sophie O'Sullivan (1500m/Ireland), and Justin O'Toole (800m/Canada).
Six more former Huskies will battle the world's best: Izzi Batt-Doyle (class of 2019) in the 10k for Australia, Brian Fay (class of 2023) in the 5k for Ireland, Kieran Lumb (class of 2023) in the 1,500m for Canada, Sam Tanner (a Husky from 2019-21) in the 1,500m for New Zealand, Ed Trippas (class of 2023) in the steeplechase for Australia, and Gianna Woodruff (class of 2015) in the 400m hurdles for Panama.
It's the debut IAAF World Championships appearance for Amanda Moll, Maatoug, and O'Toole, but the other eight Huskies all have previous Worlds experience. Woodruff brings the most experience, as this will be her fifth consecutive World Championships appearance for Panama, dating back to her debut in 2017 in London.
