Huskies Drop Opener At No. 2 Oregon State, 3-1
March 22, 2024 | Baseball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Husky pitching held the Oregon State offense to a meager three hits on Friday but Washington was unable to capitalize on its scoring chances, dropping game one of the series, 3-1, at Goss Stadium.
Jared Engman took the loss, allowing three runs on three hits over five innings. Grant Cunningham threw three hitless innings of relief.
After a scoreless first from the Huskies, Oregon State jumped ahead immediately, taking a 1-0 lead on a Travis Bazzana leadoff home run.
Engman and company stranded a pair of Beavers on in the first and second but OSU was able to add on in the third, scoring a pair to extend the lead to 3-0.
After leaving a man in scoring position in each of the first three innings, the Huskies broke through in the fifth. Carson Ohland led off the frame with a walk, eventually coming around to score when Aiva Arquette poked an RBI single up the middle.
However, the Huskies couldn't keep the momentum going as the Beavers grabbed the advantage in the series.
Washington and Oregon State will square off in game two at Goss Stadium at 2:05 p.m. PT on Saturday. The game will be available for streaming through Pac-12 Insider.
