
Special Season Comes To An End In WBIT First Round On Montlake

SEATTLE – No. 2 seed Washington women's basketball (16-15, 6-12 Pac-12) saw their special season come to an end on Montlake Thursday night in a tough WBIT First Round game against Georgetown (23-11, 9-9 Big East), falling 56-64 in Alaska Airlines Arena.
Both teams came out fast and physical, putting up the defensive battle fans could expect from two strong teams.
At halftime, the Huskies trailed 26-32. There was no quit in the Dawgs, as they fought to extend their season.
In the fourth quarter, Sayvia Sellers hit her third three of the game to bring UW within two points. Hannah Stines followed up with a three-pointer of her own to put UW up by one point with 5:42 remaining.
Baskets continued to be traded as both teams refused to quit, and the Huskies were within three points with 1:47 left in the game.
Sellers led Washington in scoring with 15 points, draining three three-pointers to put her name in the record book. She finished the season making 35 threes, putting her at No. 6 in the UW Freshmen Top 10, and becoming the first freshman to break into the category since the 2014-15 season.
Dalayah Daniels finished with her 18th career (14th at UW) double-double, recording 14 points and 10 rebounds to lead both teams in rebounding.
Stines also made three three-pointers tonight, and was the third Husky in double-digit scoring, finishing with 13 points.
With just a few seconds remaining in the game, senior Lauren Schwartz was substituted out, and all of Alaska Airlines Arena took a moment to honor the incredible student-athlete who has spent three seasons on Montlake helping build the culture of Washington women's basketball.
The entire arena got on their feet for a standing ovation in her honor, and every player on the court and opposing bench clapped as Schwartz was met on Washington's sideline with grateful, tearful eyes from her coaches and teammates.
This season has come to a close, with a bright future ahead. The Huskies are truly building something special on Montlake.
