February 06, 2024 | Men's Basketball
UW (12-10, 4-7 Pac-12) heads across the southern border to continue two of the oldest rivalries in college basketball.
The road trip begins in Eugene on Thursday night with a battle against the Oregon Ducks. Rich Waltz and Eldridge Recasner have the call on FS1. Tony Castricone and Jason Hamilton will call the action on the Husky Sports Network and in Seattle on Sports Radio 93.3 KJR-FM.
THE MATCHUP
UW visits Eugene for the first time in two years on Thursday. The Huskies and Ducks meet for the 315th time overall - the second-most played series in college basketball history, behind Oregon-Oregon State. The Huskies lead the all-time series, which dates back to 1903. The Huskies' 192 wins over Oregon are the third-most by any DI team over a single opponent. The Ducks took last month's matchup in Seattle 74-72.
LAST TIME OUT
Washington tied the score late in regulation but ultimately fell 90-87 in overtime in Saturday's Boeing Apple Cup Series game at Alaska Airlines Arena. Keion Brooks Jr. scored a career-high 35 points, was 12-of-23 shooting and 11-of-13 at the free-throw line. He is the third Pac-12 player to score 35 this season. The loss snapped a four-game winning streak in overtime games at home, dating back to 2022. It was the first OT game against WSU since 2016 and 10th overall. The Ducks are 10-1 at home this season with their lone loss coming to Arizona.
NON-CONFERENCE RECAP
The Huskies won eight non-conference games for the second-straight season, which equals their most since winning 10 in 2019-20. UW scored at least 74 points in each of its first 10 games in 2023-24 after only reaching the 74-point mark three times in their first 10 games last season. Two of the Huskies' three losses were to top-30 NET teams (CSU, SDSU).
TOP DAWGS
Keion Brooks Jr. is one of three DI players averaging 20.0 points per game, 7.0 rebounds per game and shooting 50% overall and 40% from three and the only such player from a Power-5 school.
