Comeback Falls Short As Dawgs Drop Regular Season Finale 85-79
March 07, 2026 | Men's Basketball
EUGENE, Ore. – Washington erased a 21-point deficit to set up a back-and-forth battle late, which ultimately didn't go the Huskies way as UW fell to Oregon 85-79 in the regular season finale.
A steal and score by Wesley Yates III helped fuel a late 29-8 run, which was highlighted by Hannes Steinbach completing a three-point play to give the Huskies the lead for the first time at 75-74.
Washington (15-16, 7-13 Big Ten) grew the lead to 79-76 but Kwame Evans Jr. hit a late three and six free throws to ice the game.
A white-hot Oregon shooting spurt coupled with foul trouble put Washington behind early. Steinbach had three early fouls and was limited to 10 minutes in the first half.
The Dawgs made four of their last five field-goal attempts of the first half and went into the locker room down 44-30.
The Ducks made eight threes in the first half but were held to just 3 of 11 in the final twenty minutes.
Steinbach recorded his fourth-straight double-double and 20th of the season, pacing Washington with 26 points and 13 rebounds. He has recorded a double-double in two of the last four halves. After picking up the three early fouls, he committed just one in the second half.
Yates and Zoom Diallo scored 14 points apiece and Quimari Peterson finished with 11.
Courtland Muldrew provided 26 strong minutes off the bench, recording a career-high nine points, five rebounds and a team-high four assists.
The Huskies shot 47 percent while the Ducks made 53 percent of their shots.
The rivals split the season series with the home team winning each contest.
The Huskies now head to Chicago for the Big Ten Tournament and a tilt with USC on Wednesday. The game will air on Peacock at approximately 11:30 a.m. Pacific. UW defeated the Trojans 91-72 on Wednesday.
