
Washington Completes Season Sweep of Seattle U

SEATTLE β For the third time in 2023, Washington (29-14) defeated its crosstown neighbor Seattle U (17-28) on Tuesday, topping the Redhawks 9-2 at Husky Ballpark.

Opener Case Matter picked up the win, throwing two scoreless innings with three strikeouts. From there, the Huskies went Johnny Wholestaff to complete the contest, utilizing six relief pitchers.

McKay Barney got scoring started for the Huskies in the second, plating AJ Guerrero with a ground ball to third, with Cooper Whitton following with a two-run single lifted to center field.

The next inning, Seattle U got on the board with a run before Aiva Arquette added on to the Husky lead with a bang. The true freshman pummeled a 1-0 offering, hammering a three-run bomb high up the batter's eye in center to make it 6-0.

Following a scoreless fourth, UW scratched two more across in the fifth. Coby Morales crossed home plate on a wild pitch, with AJ Guerrero moving to third and coming home himself on Barney's sacrifice fly.

An RBI fielder's choice got another run back for the Redhawks in the sixth but Guerrero answered with a solo shot in the seventh, dropping a homer over the wall in left-center and into Union Bay to cap scoring for the night.
