April 25, 2023 | Baseball
SEATTLE β Seattle U (13-24, 9-9 WAC) climbed back to deadlock the score late but Washington (22-13, 8-9 Pac-12 got the last laugh Tuesday at Husky Ballpark, treating Seattle to some late night fireworks in a 6-4 win on Montlake.
Β
UW starter Grant Cunningham gave the Huskies four shutout innings but took a no-decision. Reilly McAdams got the win on the mound, collecting the final five outs.
Β
The Huskies grabbed an early lead in the second, taking advantage of some wildness out of RedHawk starter Kian Hogan. Jeter Ybarra got on on an HBP and Michael Snyder followed with a single, with both coming home on wild pitches to make it 2-0.
Β
Seattle U cut the lead in half in the fifth on Jackson Lind's solo shot but UW responded with two of its own in the bottom half. Cam Clayton scampered home on a third run-scoring wild pitch for SU and AJ Guerrero lifted a sac fly shortly after, bringing in Will Simpson.
Β
However, the RedHawks were resilient, getting a run home in the sixth on a sacrifice fly and tying the game in the eighth on Matt Boissoneault's two-run homer.
Β
With a brand new ball game suddenly facing them, the Huskies responded. Cam Clayton gave UW the lead right back, launching a cloud scraping solo bomb to left-center. Will Simpson made it back-to-back jacks for the Huskies, tanking a solo homer of his own to left, lifting Washington to victory.
