July 06, 2022 | Volleyball
SEATTLE -- Washington Volleyball returns in just a few short weeks. The two-time defending Pac-12 Champion Huskies have finalized all dates and opponents for the 2022 fall season. Washington will start on the road at Arkansas on August 26, and have the home opener on Thursday, September 8. Fans can catch the Huskies on live TV a total of seventeen times this season, including two matches on ESPNU.
Washington travels to Fayetteville, Ark. to open the year in the hometown of senior Ella May Powell with back-to-back matches against the Razorbacks. From there the Huskies visit Boulder, Colo. where the Buffs will host UW, Iowa, and Illinois in another installment of theย Pac-12/Big Ten Challenge.
On Sept. 8-9, the Huskies are back in front of their fans for three big matches in two days. On Sept. 8, the Huskies host Northwestern at 7:30 p.m. The next day, UW has a double-header against Pepperdine at 11 a.m. and against Cal Poly at 7:30 p.m. Nonconference play concludes with a trip east to Bozeman, Montana for three matches.
Pac-12 play begins at home on Sept. 21 against the Cougars in the first match televised on pac-12 Networks. UW then makes its only trip to Los Angeles to play UCLA in the first ESPNU telecast on Sept. 25. Washington only faces the L.A. schools once this season, so the first and second-place Pac-12 teams from last year will meet for the only time in the first week of this conference slate. The Huskies won't see USC until the final week of the season, in Seattle.
Wsahington's second ESPNU national TV appearance will be at home against Oregon on Oct. 9.
The Huskies finished 26-5 and 17-3 in the Pac-12 last year to win the conference for the second time in one calendar year, and the seventh time in program history. The Dawgs dropped a five-set heartbreaker at No. 2 Texas in the Sweet 16. Head Coach Keegan Cook has a trio of returning senior All-Americans in setter Ella May Powell, outside hitter Claire Hoffman, and middle blocker Marin Grote.
