Matchup History
With three recent national championships (2006-07, '18), it is no secret that the Beavers field solid teams. This is apparent in the matchup history where the Beavers hold a 48-26 record since 2000, including a sweep of the Huskies April 22-24 down in Corvallis. The Dawgs are 14-3 since then however, playing with a renewed sense of confidence.
Scouting The Huskies
Head coach Lindsay Meggs has a re-loaded roster for 2022, featuring 23 newcomers, including 10 JUCO transfers, 10 true freshmen, and three four-year college transfers.
Husky pitchers are fourth in the conference with a 4.25 team ERA. Wednesday's game will feature RHP Jared Engman starting his fifteenth game of the season. He's been lights out this past month with a 0.92 ERA and 24 strikeouts to just three walks. In his April 22nd start against OSU, Engman gave up just two runs on six hits over five innings with no walks and two strikeouts.
1B Will Simpson leads multiple team offensive categories, including runs (42), doubles (15), HRs (11), and RBIs (43). AJ Guerrero is hot on his tail though sitting just one shy in doubles (14), HRs (10), and RBIs (42). Batting .316 in 196 at bats, C Johnny Tincher leads the team among regular starters, while CF McKay Barney (.310) sets the team mark in hits with 71.
Scouting The Beavers
As the catcher on two national championship teams with the Beavers ('06, '07), Head Coach Mitch Canham was welcomed back in 2019 and has a record of 83-46 in three seasons.
Their pitchers are second in the Pac-12 with a 3.73 ERA. Sophomore starter RHP Jaren Hunter is 2-1 on the year with a 3.43 ERA over 42 innings (9 starts). Though he didn't appear in the Huskies' series, opponents are batting .250 against him and he has yet to give up a home run.
On offense, OSU is fourth in the Pac-12 with a .292 BA. They are disciplined at the plate with 322 walks (52 more than UCLA at number two).
