Matchup History
This weekend will mark just the second all-time series between the two programs, with UW sweeping Cal Poly in Seattle in 2019.
Scouting The Huskies
Head coach Lindsay Meggs and his staff have an excited and re-loaded roster for the 2022 season. This year's roster features 23 newcomers made up of 10 JUCO transfers, 10 true freshmen and three four-year college transfers.
Among the returning UW pitchers to watch are Adam Bloebaum, Jack Enger and Stefan Raeth. All three are veterans who have experience as starters and out of the bullpen. Colton McIntosh, Bryce Armstrong, Jared Engman and Gianluca Shinn are a quarter of JUCO transfers to pay attention to on the mound.
On offense, Will Simpson returns after leading the Huskies in all major categories last season, batting .310 with seven home runs and 35 RBI. Michael Brown ranked second on the team with four home runs in 2021 and has the next-most returning experience with 105 at-bats a season ago. Other contributors back from last year's squad include versatile infielders Michael Snyder, Christian Dicochea and Dalton Chandler as well as experienced outfielders Cole Miller and Preston Viltz. Johnny Tincher brings the most returning experience at the catching position, while Karl Koerper has big-time power and can DH and play 1B.
Notable newcomers on offense include JUCO transfer McKay Barney in the outfield, JUCO transfer Coby Morales in the infield, Cal State Fullerton transfer Josh Urps and true freshman Cam Clayton in the middle infield
Scouting the Mustangs
Cal Poly returns seven offensive players that started at least 20 games last season, highlighted by projected first round pick Brooks Lee, who hit .342 and was Big West Co-Player of the Year last season. Third baseman Tate Samuelson was named All-Big West in 2018 and 2019 and drove in 39 runs in 2021.
The Mustangs also return their top two starters. Drew Thorpe made 15 Friday starts and went 6-6 with a 3.79 ERA< while="" travis="" weston="" went="" 5-6="" with="" a="" 3.28="" era="" as="" the="" saturday="">
In the bullpen, Kyle Scott returns after being named All-Big West in 2021 with a 3.91 ERA and seven saves in in 46.0 innings of work.
