Washington Falls in Late Battle to Colorado

SEATTLE – The Washington women's basketball team (9-3) dropped a tough contest 56-64 to Colorado (11-3) Friday afternoon in Alaska Airlines Arena.
This was the first game back in 10 days after the holiday break.
"This team put some good work in over the holidays, and I really loved our return week," head coach Tina Langley said. "I think we will continue to see us progress and continue to improve."
The Huskies battled to the end in Friday's conference matchup, showing sparks of a comeback in the final frame.
"I liked our fight in the end," Langley said. "I thought we continued to try to find our way on both ends of the floor."
Lauren Schwartz got the scoring started for the Huskies with a successful steal and score opportunity, and fans saw that same hot start in the second half when Haley Van Dyke successfully did the same thing to begin the third quarter. The Huskies went on a 7-0 run to start the second half, but couldn't quite catch the lead.
Schwartz finished the game with 12 points, four rebounds, and two steals. Jayda Noble was the other Husky in double digits, tying her career high scoring with a team-leading 14 points and six rebounds.
It was a career afternoon for Noble, as she finished the game with a career high four made three-pointers, career high three blocks, and tied her career high assists with five, which is a new season high.
Other bright spots for the Huskies included out-rebounding the Buffs 32-26 and shooting above their season average at 42%, which was well above what the Colorado defense had been allowing opponents this season so far on average.
The Washington fanbase was all-in for the entirety of the game, and the loud, energetic crowd was noticed by the Huskies.
"We are incredibly thankful to our fans that continue to show up and support this young team," Langley said. "We are excited to play in front of them again on Sunday."
Next Up: Washington hosts No. 11 Utah to ring in the new year on Sunday, Jan. 1 at 12 p.m. PT in Alaska Airlines Arena.
