Washington Uses Massive Second Half To Defeat Cal

SEATTLE -- After finding itself in a 7-point hole at halftime, the Washington men's basketball team stormed back in the second half to take down California by a score of 64-55. The Huskies evened up their record on the season, improving to 7-7 overall and 2-2 in the Pac-12.

It was all Huskies early, as the home side used two forced turnovers and four offensive rebounds to take an early 8-2 lead.

Despite another quick start by UW, Cal would make 9 of its last 10 field goals to end the half and take a 34-27 lead going into the break.

No strangers to second half comebacks, the Huskies rallied behind the raucous crowd at Alaska Airlines Arena and kicked things into high gear.

Leading scorer Terrell Brown Jr. had just 3 points at halftime, but would explode for 18 in the second half to give him yet another 20-point game and keep his streak of double-digit points in every game this season alive.

Brown Jr. would help lead UW to a 15-6 run for the Huskies and used an and-one with 12:17 remaining to tie the game at 44.

Aiding the comeback was another strong defensive performance, this time led by Daejon Davis. He collected six steals, tying a team-high this season, matching the mark shared by himself and Brown Jr..

And while Davis and Brown Jr. put up huge statlines, the consistency inside of Nate Roberts was crucial for Washington. A force in the paint, Roberts collected his second double-double of the season, scoring 10 points while adding 12 rebounds (five offensive). Roberts was also nails at the free throw line, going 6-7 from the charity stripe.

The Huskies would regain the lead with 6:35 left in the game, as Brown Jr. hit two free throws to give the UW a 52-51 lead.

Two possessions later, Brown Jr. broke a defender's ankles before draining a jumper.

After another stop on defense, PJ Fuller drained a three-pointer to give the Huskies a 59-51 and blow the roof off Alaska Airlines Arena.

The Huskies kept that wave of momentum and closed out the game with ease to send the Husky fans home happy.

Washington is back in action on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. when the team hosts Stanford.
