Scouting the opposition
- Oregon State at a Glance: The Beavers make the drive to Seattle with a record of 14-5 and are ranked No. 21 in the DI Baseball national poll. In their first Pac-12 game of the season, they dropped a 5-2 contest to Washington State. They would win the next two games to clinch the series. In midweek action, they dropped a back-and-forth 9-8 thriller to Santa Clara on Tuesday night, but got revenge the next day with a dominant 9-0 win.
- Man in Charge: Oregon State alum Mitch Canham is in his second season in charge of the program. He was a decorated player with the Beavers and led them to a 5-9 record in 2020 before the season was halted due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
- By the Numbers: On offense, Andy Armstrong leads the way for Oregon State. He is the only player that has played in and started all 19 games for the Beavers this season. He leads all Oregon State starters with a .370 AVG while tying for second with 12 RBIs. Joe Casey leads the team with both 3 HR and 15 RBIs. Preston Jones has been incredibly productive as well, leading the team with 16 runs scored while being a perfect 5-for-5 in stolen bases, also a team-best.
- On the mound:Β The Beavers currently lead the Pac-12 with a 2.58 team ERA and are the only team in the conference with a team ERA under 3.00. Cooper Hjerpe has been the most productive starter, boasting a 2.10 ERA in a team-high 25.2 innings pitched. Five different Oregon State relievers have combined to throw 27.1 scoreless innings, led by Bryan Salgado (9.0 IP).
Husky Notes
- Braiden Ward will look to continue his on-base streak of 18 games. He has reached base safely in every game this season.Β
- Ward's next stolen base will give him sole possession of third place all-time in Washington history, breaking a tie with Kevin Stocker.
