Huskies Start Season With 1-0 Shutout
February 12, 2021 | Women's Soccer
SEATTLE – The Washington Huskies began the year on the right foot, winning 1-0 over their crosstown rival Seattle U. Washington outshot Seattle U a stunning 19-7 in the win.
The only goal in the game came on an own goal after a Karlee Stuekcle cross into the box let Sianna Siemonsma pressure the keeper. Washington had plenty of chances, including a few strong runs from MaKayla Woods and some laser shots from Ameera Hussen, keeping Seattle U from ever gaining momentum.
After outshooting the Redhawks 7-4 in the first half, Washington took over in the second. The Huskies had 12 shots in the final 45 minutes. After taking the lead, the Huskies allowed only three shots, with just one coming in the final 20 minutes.
Olivia Sekany played the full 90 in goal for Washington, earning her first win and first shutout as a Husky with three saves.
