Bajema Named Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week
September 16, 2019 | Volleyball
SEATTLE โ Senior outside hitter Kara Bajema picked up the first Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week award of her career today after leading the Huskies to a big road win at No. 17 Creighton on Saturday and the Bluejay Invitational tournament title. It's the first Pac-12 Player of the Week award for the 10th-ranked Huskies this season and first Offensive honor for Bajema.
ย
Bajema had matching 16 kill performances in UW's double-header on Saturday, first in a win over Nebraska-Omaha and then again in the big road test against the Bluejays. The match with Creighton was a rematch of Washington's NCAA second round upset of the ninth-seeded Bluejays in 2018. Thanks in large part to Bajema's 16 kills, 10 digs, and .324 attack percentage, the Huskies came out on top once again.
ย
The Lynden, Wash. native was named tournament MVP, while Ella May Powell and Claire Hoffman were both named to the All-Tournament Team as well.
ย
Washington moved up to 10th in the AVCA Coaches Poll this week, and now has a unique week ahead with a home-and-home series against 9th-ranked Wisconsin to finish non-conference play. The Huskies visit Madison, Wisc. first on Thursday for a match televised on FS1. Then the teams head to Seattle for a rematch, and Washington's home opener, on Saturday, Sept. 21.
