SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Huskies padded their NCAA qualifiers with three more bids tonight as the NCAA West Preliminary Championships wrapped up at Sacramento State, bringing the final tally to a dozen Dawgs with thirteen entries between them. Jonah Wilson punched his second ticket in two days, qualifying in the shot put, while Allie Schadler and Mick Stanovsek came through this evening in the 1,500-meters.
The twelve Huskies will now march on to Austin, Texas where the NCAA titles will be determined from June 5-8 at Mike A Myers Stadium.
The Huskies are sending five men and seven women. The seven women's entries tie the most for UW in the current qualifying format which goes back to 2010. The 13 total entries are tied for third-most in that stretch, and a major step up over the past two seasons which saw the Huskies earn four entries last season and six in 2017.

Allie Schadler showed what a difference a year can make in the 1,500-meters. Last year, she advanced to the quarterfinals but was out of gas for the second race in three days. This time around, Schadler advanced through round one on Thursday, and today was able to run a lifetime best to reach the final site for the first time. Schadler came through in fourth-place in the second heat in 4:14.67, the new No. 9 mark in school history.
In the previous heat, junior Katie Rainsberger led the race from the gun and still held the lead until the backstretch of the final lap. Unfortunately enough of the pack had hung on to her aggressive pace and Rainsberger was just passed for a key seventh-place spot at the line. She had run a season-best 4:15.86 but essentially was one step short of advancing as her time was 13th overall with the top-12 advancing.
Senior Anna Maxwell also ran the final race of her Husky career in the 1,500m quarterfinals. She was in Schadler's heat and wound up 11th and 21st overall in a time of 4:26.50.
In the men's 1,500-meter quarters, sophomore Nate Beamer led for the first couple laps with junior Mick Stanovsek sitting right behind him. As the pace picked up, Stanovsek went with the top group, and looked strong all the way through the line as he grabbed the fifth and final auto-qualifying spot in a time of 3:42.37. Stanovsek heads to NCAAs for the second straight year, as he made the final last year for Oregon. Beamer wound up ninth in the section in 3:54.85.

Starting things off today was Wilson in the shot put, who added another 16 pounds to his suitcase when he packs for Austin as he added the shot to his discus qualifier. Wilson had a foul on his first attempt but then went 62-11 1/4 on his second attempt to get up into the top-10. That mark would hold up for 10th overall, earning him a second event at Nationals.
Senior All-American Fred Huxham ran his final race as a Dawg tonight, fighting hard in the 5,000-meters but coming up just a couple places short of an NCAA qualifier. Huxham ran 13:58.16 to finish ninth in his 24-man heat and that was 14th overall, two spots shy of the goal.
On the women's side, Emily Hamlin returned to the track after qualifying last night in the steeplechase and put out another great effort in the 5k. Hamlin was seeded 26th coming in and wound up 19th overall with a time of 16:07.05, just two seconds off her PR despite the huge effort last night in the steeple.
Finishing things was the men's 4x400-meter relay near 10 p.m. The quartet of Cass Elliott, Jason Palmer, Kemuel Santana, and Evan Mafilas was seventh in their heat in a time of 3:10.30. The group was the last team in at 24th but finished 19th overall and will bring all four back next season.
In the women's shot put, junior Angel Nkwonta had a best of 47-2 1/2 on her second attempt with fouls on her first and third and that brought her strong season to a close.
Sophomore Jaylen Taylor made his first NCAA Prelims appearance in the triple jump, but the Pac-12 bronze medalist couldn't get on track today as he had two fouls and a mark of 47-3 3/4.
