Home At Last! Huskies Open Against Cal Poly
February 27, 2019 | Baseball
**SCHEDULE UPDATE: FRIDAY'S FIRST PITCH HAS BEEN MOVED TO 4:05 P.M.**
SEATTLE - After unexpectedly spending two weeks on the road to start the season, the Washington Huskies (4-2) return to Seattle for seven games. Of those seven games, only three will be in the friendly confines of Husky Ballpark.
This weekend, the Diamond Dawgs host Cal Poly (2-6) for a three-game series -- marking the team's official home opening series. With sunny but cold weather in the forecast, the start times of this week's games are 4 p.m., 2 p.m. and 1 p.m. on Friday through Sunday, respectively.
Washington is more than happy to be home after dodging wild weather in Southern California and Arizona. The Huskies have already had games postponed four times due to weather and have trekked east and west looking for playable fields.
"It makes our guys really appreciate what we have back at home at Husky Ballpark from the locker room, to our turf field -- all those things that make our place at home such a great place to play," said Husky Coach Lindsay Meggs following the Huskies three-game sweep of Northern Colorado in Phoenix.
Next week, the Huskies are in the Seattle area for four games -- a single game at Bellevue's Bannerwood Park against Seattle U and three games at T-Mobile Park for the Seattle Baseball Showcase.
This weekend's games will be live streamed with Bill Abelson on the call. Links to Live Stats/Live Audio and Video can all be found online at GoHuskies.com // Sports // Baseball // Schedule. Constant updates are also available via Twitter: @UW_Baseball.
SERIES HISTORY VS. CAL POLY
Washington and Cal Poly have met 22 previous times, with the Mustangs leading 15-7 all-time. The first time the teams met was in 1969 in a single game. Every other meeting between the two squads has been part of a three-games series. Washington has won only one of the previous seven series played between the two squads, taking two-of-three games in San Luis Obispo in 2005. This year's series marks the fourth time the teams have matched up for three-games in Seattle with Cal Poly holding a 6-3 advantage at UW. The teams last faced off exactly six years to the date, March 1-3, 2013 in Seattle. The Huskies won the first game of that series before dropping the next two games. Coach Lindsay Meggs is 2-4 against the Mustangs since taking over at Washington.
NOTEWORTHY
• Dating back to 2018 but not including the two games UW played in the College World Series, senior Joe Wainhouse has hit a home run in 12-straight series. UW has won nine of those series The last series he did not have a homer in was at USC, March 29-31.
• Washington's 25 runs scored against Northern Colorado on Feb. 20 were the most by the Huskies since they scored 26 on May 23, 2003 against USC (W, 26-3).
• Braiden Ward and Ramon Bramasco provided quite a 1-2 punch at the top of the order in UW's 25-8 win over N. Colorado on Feb. 20. The duo combined to go 8-for-11 at the plate, each collecting four hits, and nine runs. Ward scored five times and stole three bases, while Bramasco scored four runs and stole two bases.
• Nick Kahle recorded six RBI in just three innings during UW's 25-8 win vs. N. Colorado. It was the most runs batted in by a Husky since Brian Wolfe knocked in eight at USC on March 29, 2014.
