November 06, 2019 | Men's Soccer

Quick Strikes
Pac-12 Title Chances
Washington can clinch its third Pac-12 title and first since 2013 on Thursday with a win over Cal and a loss or tie by Stanford at Oregon State (Thursday - 4pm). If both UW and Stanford win on Thursday, the Huskies can wrap up the title on Sunday with a win or a tie against the Cardinal.
The California Golden Bears At A Glance
The Golden Bears have struggled over the last few weeks, going winless over their last four matches (0-2-2) including a frustrating 1-0 loss at home to San Diego State, which had been winless in Pac-12 matches this year. Cal has not had an issue scoring goals over that stretch, finding the back of the net seven times. However, they have allowed nine goals over that four-game stretch after surrendering just six goals over their previous 10 matches.
Sixteen of the team's 23 goals have come from three players with senior forward Thomas Williamson leading the way with seven. Jonathan Estrada adds five goals with Simon Lekressner adding four. In goal, senior Drake Callender is 6-5-2 with a 1.08 goals against average.
Series History vs. Cal
Washington holds a 33-19-10 edge in the all-time series including a 12-2-3 mark under Coach Jamie Clark. The Huskies have won four-straight against Cal and the last three between the two in Seattle. The two teams have never failed to provide an entertaining match with 17 of the last 18 matches being decided by one or fewer goals.
The Stanford Cardinal At A Glance
The Cardinal continue to be a dominant force in college soccer with their lone loss this season coming to the Huskies on the farm. Stanford has won its last five-straight after the loss to UW and a tie against Oregon State three days later. Overall, Stanford sits just five points back of the Huskies with three matches to go, looking to win its fifth-straight Pac-12 title.
The Cardinal are led by redshirt sophomore forward Zach Ryan, who has a team-best seven goals. He is one of 10 Stanford players with a goal on the season. Freshman midfielder Ousseni Bouda leads the way with 14 points (5g, 4a). In goal, Andrew Thomas is 11-1-2 on the season with a 0.69 goals against average.
Series History vs. Stanford
Washington holds a 36-20-6 record against Stanford in the all-time series including a 17-9-2 mark in Seattle. The Huskies had won 10-straight in the series from 2010-2014, but are just 3-5-2 over the last 10 matchups. As a testament to how evenly matched these teams are, four of the last six meetings between the two have gone into overtime, including the contest in Palo Alto earlier this year won by the Huskies 2-1 in double OT. The victory snapped a UW winless streak against the Cardinal dating back to a 2016 (had been 0-3-1 in previous four). The Huskies look to break another streak, having lost the last three against Stanford at home. The last win over the Cardinal in Seattle was a 2-1 victory in 2015.
Going Streaking!
The Huskies have posted 11 shutouts through 14 matches this season, which is tied for the second-most shutouts and for the second-best shutout percentage (.733) in the NCAA. In addition, UW ranks fourth in team goals against average at 0.396. Dating back to last season, the Huskies have cleansheets in 16 of their last 20 matches recording a 0.29 goals against average over that stretch (six goals in 1,835 minutes).
Going Streaking-Again!
Washington has just one loss in its last 20 matches (18-1-1) dating back to last season. That is the longest such streak since 1981-82 when the Huskies went 24-1-1 in one of the best runs in program history. In addition, Washington's 10-match winning streak matches its longest streak the Huskies won 10-straight matches near the end of the 1999 season.
Shutout Central
The Huskies have posted 11 shutouts through 14 matches this season, which is tied for the second-most shutouts and for the second-best shutout percentage (.733) in the NCAA. It's the 10th time UW has recorded 11 shutouts in a season including three seasons when the Huskies recorded a program-best 14 cleansheets in a season (last in 1982).
In addition, UW ranks fourth in team goals against average at 0.396. Dating back to last season, the Huskies have cleansheets in 16 of their last 20 matches recording an impressive 0.29 goals against average over that stretch (six goals in 1,835 minutes).
In the Rankings ...
Washington was ranked atop the NCAA/United Soccer Coaches poll for its third-straight week this week, marking the first time in program history UW has been ranked No. 1 three weeks in a season. It's a pretty remarkable feat considering the Huskies were unranked to start the season.
Bodily Repeats as Pac-12 Player of the Week
Junior midfielder Blake Bodily earned back-to-back Pac-12 Player of the Week awards after earning his second-straight honor on Oct. 29. Bodily became the Huskies' first player to win the award in back-to-back weeks after tallying three goals in two matches in Southern California. In the previous week, Bodily assisted on the match-winner and scoring a goal of his own in the Huskies' 4-0 win over Gonzaga. It was the first time Bodily earned a Pac-12 Player of the Week honor. He has four goals over his last three matches and has tallied a point in 10 of 13 matches this season.
Meek's STILL A Goal-Scoring Machine!
Redshirt sophomore Lucas Meek has been a big key to the offense this year, scoring six goals on the season despite playing in just 459 minutes over 13 matches, including an impressive five-match goal streak earlier in the year. In addition, five of those goals have been match-winners, which ranks second in the NCAA lead in that category. Lately, Meek has been adding to his assist total, recording three helpers over his last four matches.
Meek redshirted his first year, played three minutes at the end of one match last year as a freshman, and was down on the depth chart to start the year this season. Meek's first action in 2019 came in mop-up time in a 4-0 win over San Francisco. He came on in the 41st minute at No. 16 Michigan State, then scored two minutes later and didn't play again in the second half. He did not play at Michigan, but then came in late in the match at CSUN and scored UW's only goal in the 80th minute. Meek scored at Seattle, at home vs San Diego State and just 47 seconds into the match against UCLA.
Gotta Get That First One
Washington continues to find success when scoring the first goal of the match. Going back to last season, the Huskies are 25-1-0 when scoring the match's first goal with the lone loss coming in a double OT defeat vs Stanford last year. This year, UW is 13-0-0 when scoring first.

That Offense!
Washington's offense has been clicking throughout the season, scoring 33 goals in 15 matches to lead the Pac-12 and rank 15th in the NCAA in scoring offense (2.20 goals per match). The Huskies also rank 16th nationally in assists per game (2.07) and 28th in total points (97).
Home Bodies
The Huskies have been incredible at home this season, posting a perfect 7-0-0 record and outscoring opponents 20-2. Dating back to last season, the Huskies are 11-0-1 in their last 12 home matches, allowing just two goal over that stretch of 1,100 minutes. Washington's 12-match home unbeaten streak is its longest since a 13-match streak (11-0-2) beginning in 2012 and running through 2013.
Clark Wins #150
UW Head Coach Jamie Clark picked up his 150th career victory with Washington's 4-0 win over Gonzaga on Oct. 16. In 13 seasons, Clark is 152-58-23, with this year being the 12th season with 12+ victories. Clark's .702 career winning percentage is the sixth-best among active NCAA DI coaches. Earlier this year, Clark picked up his 100th win at UW in a 2-1 win over No. 18 Denver. With the victory, he became the third coach in program history with at least 100 wins (Dean Wurzberger 220, Mike Ryan 105), holding a 112-43-20 record in nine seasons on Montlake.
Fowler in Goal
Freshman goalie Sam Fowler extended his win streak to open his career, picking up the victory at San Diego State to improve to 8-0-0. He currently leads the NCAA with a 0.13 goals against average and a save percentage of 0.929. Fowler earned his first college start in UW's 4-0 victory over San Francisco, becoming just the second freshman to make a start in goal for the Huskies since 2002. The only other during that stretch was Spencer Richey (2010)–the starting goalkeeper for FC Cincinnati (MLS)–who had six shutouts his first year at UW.
Bodily Named CSN National Player of the Week

He is also on the MAC Hermann Trophy watchlist, awarded to the country's best collegiate player.
Bodily Rakes In The Pre-Season Honors
Bodily was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy watch list to start the year (awarded to the top college soccer player), becoming the first Husky since Cristian Roldan to earn that honor. He has appeared in 13 matches, making nine starts and has three assists on the year.
Road Trip Success
Washington wrapped up its first road trip of the year with an impressive 3-1-0 record with a pair of wins in Michigan and a commanding 3-0 win over crosstown rival Seattle U. The four-game trip is the longest since 2012 when UW played five-straight away from home.
Bartlow on Fire
Sophomore center back Ethan Bartlow picked up his third goal of the season vs Portland, scoring off a free kick in the 81st minute. That goal along with his strong work along the UW backline helped him earn Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week honors for the week ending Sept. 29. Bartlow has scored a goal in each of the last two matches and has four in his career.
French Records His First Goal
At Michigan, the Huskies' lone goal came from redshirt junior Kasey French, who joined the rush from his right back position, finishing with a great shot to the far post.
