UW Finishes Third At Princeton 3-Mile Chase
October 27, 2019 | Men's Rowing
PRINCETON, N.J. – A Washington crew finished third among 50 heavyweight men's entries Sunday morning at the Princeton 3-Mile Chase on Lake Carnegie.
The Husky eight completed the three-mile course in a time of 13:04.301, about 11 and a half seconds behind the winning time of 12:52.745, which was posted by Dartmouth's A entry. Princeton's top boat finished in second, about four and a half seconds behind its Ivy League rival.
Washington finished just ahead of crews from Wisconsin and California. The Huskies' race included 50 entries in one of six men's and women's heavyweight and lightweight events. The majority of competitors in the men's 8+ were from East Coast programs, most of which had multiple boats.
"We are giving opportunities to more guys to race East Coast competition in the autumn this year," explained UW men's coach Michael Callahan. "The Chase was the perfect venue to add to our schedule. This is a new crew with growth potential. We want to know where we are now to prepare for our winter training and spring season. This was a great experience for our younger guys."
The UW eight included five members of the eight that competed last weekend at the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston, along with four others who did not.
"We appreciate Princeton and their staff for loaning us equipment to make it possible for us to participate," Callahan concluded.
Next up for the Huskies is the annual Head of the Lake Regatta Sunday, Nov. 3.
